Alexa, how will voice search affect my brand?
If you’re someone that is always calling Google or Alexa for some answers then you’re part of the massive growth in Voice Search! If you’re not sure what it is…Voice search is a speech recognition technology that lets users search queries based on voice commands, for example, Amazon Echo, Amazon Alexa, Siri, Cortana and Google Assistant.
According to stats, 50% of all searches will be voice searches by 2020!* No matter how sceptical you may have been when voice search first emerged, it is now clear to see it has become part of the day to day life of many. The challenge brands now face is making sure they keep up with this thriving technology!
How ask a question versus how you type one can be two very different things! You may type “Cafes in London” however you may ask… “Alexa, do you know where the closest vegan Cafe is in London”. Humans are actually able to speak 150 words per minute vs only being able to type 40 words!*. Undoubtedly the language is more conversational and this needs to be reflected in your content and optimisations. It’s time to start saying goodbye to singular keywords and start introducing long-tailed keywords that are more question-based.
You should include an FAQ page on your website that answers consumers questions. Stuck on choosing questions? Try taking surveys or visit various forums to fully understand the main queries and challenges your customers face. The aim is to provide all the answers on your website!
The majority of voice searches are performed on a mobile…So you would be crazy not to have a website that’s optimised to perfection for mobile devices! P.S Get in touch if you need a helping hand with this!
Another tip to keep in mind, YouTube videos do show up in voice search results so having videos that answer specific questions could be a great way get into the voice search results and answer the customer’s queries.
It’s essential to have your address and details listed on your Google Business Page! When people visit a place they will ask on voice search “The best restaurants to visit in Edinburgh” and if you’re not accurately listed you could be missing a trick!
Having positive reviews galore will benefit your voice search ranking putting you at the top! With that being said, it’s imperative to consider that different areas may have different colloquialisms which could affect your results, so it’s worth taking that into account!
