Yeovil Couple ‘Net’ Lotto Win of £1.9M

A recently-married couple from Yeovil, who found love on the internet, have been lucky online once again – they banked a £1,925,567 share of the Lotto Rollover jackpot on Saturday 30 August 2008 playing via National-Lottery.co.uk.
Ed Edwards (43) and his wife, Michelle (39), met through an internet dating agency two years ago and found they clicked instantly. They tied the knot six months ago and have four teenage children between them. The family has already been ‘logging’ their spending ideas, with a new house in time for Christmas, a holiday and a Mini Cooper topping their shopping list. Michelle has already handed in her notice as store manager for Edinburgh Woollen Mill in Sherbourne, while Ed – a computer engineer for the probation service – has taken a month off to come to terms with their lottery win.
Ed said: “Both our employers have been brilliant - really supportive and pleased for us. We are so chuffed to be able to spend a bit of time together to work out what this money means for us and our family.”
Ed’s lucky streak began on Friday when he won £7 on EuroMillions. As a result, Michelle suggested they chance their luck once more on the Saturday night Lotto draw – and it was an extra Lucky Dip® that won them a share of the jackpot. Ed did not check the lottery results until Sunday lunchtime, however, and in error he deleted the email telling him he had won.
Ed explained: “I thought it was the email from two days ago telling me I had won £7. It was only when I started checking my account that I saw the ‘alert’ to contact Camelot. When the lady told me I had matched all six numbers I couldn’t understand what she was saying or understand the amount of money she told me – I just couldn’t get my head round it.”

He continued: “I went downstairs and had Sunday lunch with the family without saying a word even though Michelle said I did look very pale. After two more calls from Camelot I told Michelle I had to walk the dogs and that she had to come too because we needed to talk. I finally told her we had won the lottery at the bottom of a field – she told me I was a liar!”
The winning Lotto numbers on Saturday 30 August were 2, 14, 27, 31, 36 and 44. Ed has played Lotto since its launch over 13 years ago and recently switched to playing online. Ed and Michelle join the interactive winners’ club – and are among the 4 million-plus winners every week on The National Lottery’s range of draw-based games and Scratchcards. With over 3 million users currently registered to play, the UK National Lottery is now the world’s most successful interactive lottery.
This Wednesday’s (3 September 2008) Lotto jackpot is an estimated £2.5 million, while Friday’s (5 September 2008) EuroMillions Rollover jackpot is a staggering £92 million. Every Lotto slip now comes with its own Dream Number, it is up to players to mark ‘yes’ to give their Dream Number its chance of winning up to £500,000, or choose a Lucky Dip.
