Big Brother Bully

19.06.2008

I am ashamed to admit that in previous years I have been partial to some light viewing of Big Brother. This year I wanted it to be different, however, it has been hard to escape the media interest with Alexandra De-Gale, so I started watching snippets to see what all the fuss was about.

The single mother from Croydon has managed to show the nation, and her seven year old daughter, what a bully she is.

You can read about her antics in The Sun, but what I am more shocked about is Channel 4. I am sure she was put into the house to ‘stir’ things up a bit, as Charley Uchea did last year, but after Channel 4’s bully/race row last year, it seems history is repeating itself.

This was meant to be a ‘zero tolerance’ series, so why did she given several warnings for bullying behaviour, or why was she not thrown out when Ofcom received its first 500 complaints - now 1,500 - after she made a fellow housemate cry for burning some chips?

Is Alex a PR disaster or the making of this year’s series? They have certainly got far more column inches this early on in the series than in previous years …

Bank you very much

A couple who have been living with their four children in a lorry trailer are selling their home for £499,000 more than they paid for it – and it’s not down to house price inflation. So how is their trailer worth £500,000? Because Banksy used it as a canvas at the Glastonbury Festival in 1998.

Banksy, who was relatively unknown in 1998, asked Nathan Wellard and Maeve Neal if he could use their trailer as a blank canvas in return for two Glastonbury tickets. The artwork depicts commandos landing stereo equipment on a beach and is called Fragile Silence.

His work now has a strong celebrity following with fans including Kate Moss, Christina Aguilera and Angelina Jolie.

This isn’t the first time the anonymous Bristol street artist has increased the value of property. In January, a wall displaying his work in Notting Hill fetched £208,000.

Banksy, you can come and use my wall any time.
